190degrees Photography

Me

Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”

I am an amateur anthropologist, in addition to being a hobbyist photographer. One thing that intrigues me about old cultures is how they pointed the way for our culture today. Our ancestors took to leaving details of their day to day lives on walls prior to the advent of paper. I believe their goals then are the same as ours now; they either wanted to express themselves, communicate with others or leave a description of their lives for posterity. That they managed to achieve their goals before the development of the written word is endlessly fascinating to me.

Which leads me to photography. I believe that it is one of the tools through which we are able to take an image to express ourselves, communicate or leave something of ourselves behind.

I took up photography and took it as a challenge to not only achieve the aforementioned intangible goals, but also to take the challenge to capture the essence of an individual in a portrait or capture the spirit of a moment in celluloid – well, digital celluloid if you must – or to have someone see themselves in a different light, quite literally.

I call myself 190 degrees photography because to me, photography is a great means to look back on good times. Sometimes, instead of looking back 180 degrees – which is our want – look back at this slightly different angle of 190 degrees and see if it changes your perspective.
